Unveiling the effects of economic complexity, climate change, and urbanisation on energy security: Evidence from high-risk countries
(Academic Press, 2025) Yıldırım, Korkmaz; Hacıimamoğlu, Tunahan; Türedi, Salih
Energy security remains a critical issue in both scientific and political debates because of its wide-ranging economic, social, and environmental implications, as well as its influence on policy actions at the global, national, and local levels. However, comprehensive assessments of all key aspects of energy security remain incomplete, and no unified indicators adequately capture a country's level of energy security. To this aim, the study addresses the economic and sociopolitical factors influencing energy security using a novel analytical approach, focusing on countries identified as having the highest levels of energy security. In this regard, the research employs the Energy Security Risk Index (ESRI) developed by Global Energy Institute for the period 1995–2018 to analyses 18 countries with the highest energy security risks. The study employs the method of moments quantile regression (MMQR) to assess the effects of economic growth (EG), economic complexity (EC), CO2 emissions, and urbanisation on energy security. The main findings of the study indicate that EG and urbanisation have a mitigating effect on energy security risks, whereas CO2 emissions intensify these risks. Furthermore, the study reveals an inverted U-shaped nonlinear relationship between energy security risk and economic complexity. As key policy implications of the study, these findings suggest that particularly the government and scientific community promote sustainable development through innovative economic policies while prioritizing CO2 reduction strategies and clean energy alternatives.
The mediating role of word-of-mouth communication in the effect of green marketing mix on green brand awareness: generation Y review
(Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, 2025) Berber, Gizem; Öztürk, Abdulkadir
The increase in production and urbanization associated with industrialization and the diversification of consumer needs have led to the destruction of nature and an increase in environmental pollution. It has become evident that consumers are increasingly aware of the necessity to adopt a more conscious approach to environmental protection. In this context, while manufacturers are focusing on incorporating environmentalist practices into their business processes, it has become crucial that these practices are acknowledged and endorsed by consumers. The objective of this study is twofold: firstly, to determine the effect of green marketing practices employed by personal care and hygiene products brands on word-of-mouth communication and green brand awareness; and secondly, to ascertain whether word-of-mouth communication acts as an intermediary in the process of creating green brand awareness through green marketing practices. The study was conducted with 323 participants from Generation Y who purchased personal care and hygiene products. The data were collected via an online questionnaire using a judgmental sampling method. According to the findings of the study, it is determined that the applications of green marketing mix other than green price have an effect on word-of-mouth communication. It was found that green product and green promotion have an effect on green brand awareness, but green price and green place have no effect. In addition, it is seen that word-of-mouth communication has a partially mediating role on green brand awareness together with both green product and green promotion.

The effect of machiavellianism on unethical behavior mediated by attitude towards money and moderated professional status
(Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, 2025) Açaray, Ali; Savcı, Mustafa
Unethical behavior is one of the key obstacles for organizations and society to have a sustainable life. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the factors that may lead to this behavior and the mechanism of influence, as well as the moderator variables that may prevent the emergence of unethical behavior. The aim of study is to investigate the effect of Machiavellianism on unethical behaviors mediated by attitude towards money and moderated by professional status. Research data were collected using a questionnaire form. The questionnaire was applied to accounting professionals in Rize province. 109 professionals responded to the questionnaire. 93 of professional members were male, and 80 of them had a bachelor's degree. The average age of professional members was 48.60 years, and the average experience was 22.66 years. The analyses revealed that Machiavellianism positively affected unethical behaviors. While the full mediating role of attitude towards money was revealed, the moderating role of professional status was not statistically significant. Attitude towards money was more determinant with the emergence of unethical behaviors. This study contributed to enrichment of literature by using multiple perspectives in determining the purpose and examining the mediating and moderating variables in the effect of Machiavellianism on unethical behaviors. To prevent unethical behaviors of accounting professionals, it is important to identify the factors that encourage such behavior. However, it is also necessary to develop appropriate conditions that will reduce such behavior.
