Preventing child marriage in forced migration contexts: practical insights for frontline practitioners in Turkiye
(Wiley, 2026) Güzel, Bekir; Beşerek, Sema Nur
When forced migration intersects with the issue of child marriage, it often takes on an intersectional and international dimension. This continuing professional development (CPD) paper examines a potential social work intervention case study, using the example of Turkey, aimed at preventing forced marriage among children experiencing forced migration. Dealing with the problem of child marriage requires a multidimensional effort. Professionals working in the field need to be knowledgeable about risk factors and early warning signs, as well as different sociocultural and economic contexts. It is critical to have the flexibility to apply system theory, ecological approach and empowerment-based interventions at the micro, mezzo and macro levels. It is of global importance in terms of the implementation of the social work profession and the protection and development of the concept of children's rights.

In psyche, we unite: rethinking norm diffusion through nondualist global IR
(Routledge Journals, 2026) Tabak, Hüsrev; Shahi, Deepshikha
This paper interrogates the diffusionist foundations of norm research in international relations (IR), arguing that both mainstream and critical approaches remain constrained by a shared dualist assumption separating the West from the non-West. While mainstream scholarship advances a linear 'West-to-rest' model of norm diffusion, critical approaches often reverse rather than transcend this logic by privileging 'rest-to-West' dynamics, thereby reproducing the same binary framework. To move beyond this impasse, the paper advances a nondualist alternative grounded in a Lakatosian global IR research programme. Drawing on James Blaut's uniformitarian critique of diffusionism, it reinterprets norm dynamics through the principle of the 'psychic unity of humankind' and shifts the analytical focus from diffusion to norm emergence within a non-separable global field. Building on this foundation, the paper develops a post-binary methodology structured around three principles: rejecting exclusive claims to norm ownership, decentring fixed trajectories of norm travel and foregrounding compromise alongside contestation in contexts of global crisis. This framework conceptualises norm dynamics as a multi-sited, multidirectional process of co-production across interconnected geo-epistemic contexts, offering a novel methodological approach beyond the dualist limits of conventional IR theory.

Epigallocatechin gallate as a modulator of human mesenchymal stem cells differentiation: a mini review
(SAGE Publications, 2026) Hasan, Md. Mojahidur; Tory, Sehreen; Tutar, Yusuf
Mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent progenitor cells that can differentiate into osteogenic, adipogenic, and chondrogenic lineages. Existing methods for modifying mesenchymal stem cells differentiation rely heavily on chemical inducers and synthetic growth factors; however, these strategies are often associated with high costs, poor stability, and potential adverse effects. Therefore, growing interest has been devoted to natural bioactive compounds as safer, more readily available alternatives. Epigallocatechin gallate, the most abundant catechin in green tea, has been identified as a promising regulatory agent of mesenchymal stem cells fate in multiple original studies. This mini-review summarizes and provides a critical analysis of current in vitro evidence regarding the impact of unmodified epigallocatechin gallate on human mesenchymal stem cells differentiation, specifically highlighting osteogenic stimulation and adipogenic suppression-thereby elucidating its potential utility in bone regeneration.

Cytokine profiles in myasthenia gravis subgroups and the lack of any effect of immunosuppression
(Wiley, 2026) Çebi, Merve; Durmuş, Hacer; Çakar, Arman; Günver, Mehmet Güven; Parman, Yeşim; Deymeer, Feza; Saruhan-Direskeneli, Guher
Introduction/Aims: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a clinically and immunologically heterogeneous autoimmune disease and there is little known about the differential effects of cytokines in disease subgroups. This study aimed to compare serum cytokine profiles across distinct MG subgroups, including early-onset MG (EOMG), late-onset MG (LOMG), muscle-specific kinase antibody-positive MG (MuSK-MG), thymoma-associated MG (TAMG), and healthy controls (HC) in order to distinguish and determine relatively specific targets for the disease subgroups. Methods: Serum samples from 22 EOMG, 23 LOMG, 17 MuSK-MG, 25 TAMG patients, and 25 HC were analyzed for a panel of cytokines involved in T and B cell interactions using multiplex bead-based immunoassays and ELISA. Additionally, paired serum samples of the same patients before and after immunosuppressive therapy were evaluated in a subset of patients. Results: IL-17A, IL-4, IFN-gamma, IL-21, and IL-9 were significantly elevated in EOMG and MuSK-MG groups, whereas IL-17F, IL-37, IL-2, TNF-alpha, and IL-13 were higher in EOMG only compared with HC. Increased levels of IL-6 in MuSK-MG and IL-37 in EOMG were found in these subtypes. In contrast, LOMG and TAMG patients showed limited cytokine alterations, with significant increases only in IL-21 in LOMG and IL-17A in TAMG. Immunosuppressive therapy did not significantly alter serum cytokine concentrations. Discussion: The findings reveal heterogeneous cytokine signatures among diverse MG subgroups, separating EOMG and MuSK-MG from TAMG and LOMG with some similarities and highlighting the impact of age and thymoma presence on immune responses. This assessment of disease subgroups has provided a broader understanding of the cytokines in MG.

Mechanical performance, energy dissipation, and failure mode evolution of CO2 mineralized cement paste backfill incorporating mine tailings
(Elsevier, 2026) Hussain, Zahid; Fu, Jianxin; Song, Weidong; Li, Jiajie; Yılmaz, Erol
Mining industry generates similar to 13 billion tons of tailings annually while contributing nearly 10% of global emissions, demanding integrated strategies for waste management. Mineralized cemented paste backfill (CPB) offers dual-function solution for structural ground support and in-situ carbon sequestration; however, effects of CO2 injection on failure mechanics, energy dissipation, microstructural evolution, and carbon sequestration efficiency remain insufficiently understood. This study establishes the kinetic carbonation window for mineralized tailing-based cement paste backfill (MTCPB) by investigating CO2 injection duration (0-20 min) and curing age (3, 7, 14 days) on mechanical performance, failure mode evolution, energy dissipation, and carbon sequestration capacity using uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), thermogravimetric analysis with differential scanning calorimetry (TGA-DSC), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). An optimal 10-min CO2 injection duration under these specific conditions elevated UCS from 2.10 to 2.54 MPa, energy absorption from 3.53 to 5.47 MJ/m(3) (54.9%), transforming failure mode from shear-dominated to tensile splitting, a structural safety outcome of greater significance than peak strength alone. Portlandite content decreased from 2.45% (control) to 1.18% (optimal), confirming substantial Ca(OH)(2) consumption, while carbonate content increased from 4.64% to 5.25%, with peak CO2 uptake of 6.32%. Beyond optimal window, overcarbonation triggered surface passivation and matrix heterogeneity, reducing elastic modulus by 55% without measurable mineralogical benefit. FTIR confirmed Ca(OH)(2) depletion and CO2 -driven ettringite-to-gypsum transformation. These findings advance backfill design toward performance-based paradigm integrating failure-mode control, microstructural optimization, and sustainable co-disposal of mine tailings and waste CO2 , offering scalable, evidence-based foundation for carbon-negative underground backfilling.
