Adult separation anxiety and emotional eating among first-year students of the faculty of dentistry

Objective: In our study, the effect of adult separation anxiety on emotional eating levels among first-year students of the Faculty of Dentistry was investigated. The associations between adult separation anxiety and other psychiatric disorders are significant. Methods: A total of 62 first-year dental students participated in the study. Participants were administered a sociodemographic data form, the Adult Separation Anxiety Questionnaire, and the Emotional Eating Scale. Results: A moderate negative correlation was found between separation anxiety and age (r =-0.349, p = 0.006), a moderate positive correlation between emotional eating and body mass index (BMI) (r = 0.476, p < 0.001), and between separation anxiety and emotional eating (r = 0.494, p < 0.001). Separation anxiety predicted emotional eating, and every one-unit increase in separation anxiety was associated with a 0.253-unit increase in emotional eating. Conclusions: The beginning of university is a critical period with increased risk for mental health disorders, making research evaluating psychiatric conditions during this time particularly important. In our study, adult separation anxiety was identified as a significant factor affecting emotional eating. It is crucial to prevent maladaptive coping behaviors and to ensure that mental health disorders are not overlooked during this period.

Confidence and uncertainty aware deep learning for reliable grape leaf disease diagnosis under real world field conditions

Accurate and reliable diagnosis of grape leaf diseases is essential for sustainable viticulture, enabling timely intervention, reducing economic losses, and supporting precision crop management. Although deep learning (DL) models have demonstrated remarkable classification performance, their reliability under real-world field conditions remains insufficiently explored. In particular, confidence estimates often fail to reflect true predictive correctness when models are exposed to distributional shifts, limiting their practical applicability. To address this challenge, this study proposes a confidence- and uncertainty-aware DL framework for grape leaf disease diagnosis that extends evaluation beyond conventional accuracy-based metrics. Two publicly available grape leaf datasets were employed for stratified five-fold cross-validation in binary and multiclass classification tasks, while a third independently collected dataset was reserved exclusively for leakage-free external validation. EfficientNet-B0 and MobileNetV3-Large were evaluated under four inference configurations: raw inference, temperature scaling (TempScaling), Monte Carlo dropout, and an ensemble strategy combining uncertainty estimation with calibration. External validation demonstrated that both architectures maintained discriminative capability under domain shift. Under ensemble inference, EfficientNet-B0 achieved an accuracy of 73.8%, a macro-F1 score of 73.3%, a Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) of 0.468, and a receiver operating characteristic area under the curve (ROC-AUC) of 0.804, while MobileNetV3-Large achieved 71.8% accuracy, 71.2% macro-F1, an MCC of 0.429, and a ROC-AUC of 0.787. Despite these promising results, raw predictions exhibited substantial overconfidence, with Expected Calibration Error (ECE) values of 0.287 and 0.312 for EfficientNet-B0 and MobileNetV3-Large, respectively. TempScaling markedly improved calibration quality, reducing ECE to 0.038 and 0.042 without affecting classification performance. Ensemble inference further enhanced the balance between predictive discrimination and reliability. The results demonstrate that strong classification performance alone is insufficient for trustworthy deployment in agricultural environments. Confidence calibration and uncertainty quantification provide complementary information for identifying overconfident predictions and improving decision reliability under field variability. The proposed framework offers a reliability-oriented approach for developing trustworthy artificial intelligence systems for grape leaf disease diagnosis in precision agriculture.

Thermal transport and high-temperature thermoelectric performance of normal and inverse ZnGa2O4 spinel structures

Understanding high-temperature thermal transport in wide-band-gap oxides is essential for designing next-generation thermoelectric and thermal management systems. In this work, the thermal transport behavior and high-temperature thermoelectric performance of normal and inverse spinel ZnGa2O4 are systematically investigated using first-principles calculations combined with semi classical Boltzmann transport theory. Structural optimization was performed within the GGA-PBE framework, while electronic properties were evaluated using the modified Becke–Johnson potential to ensure reliable band-gap estimation. Special emphasis is placed on phonon-mediated heat conduction, lattice thermal conductivity, Debye temperature, and temperature-dependent transport coefficients in the range 300–1000 K, corresponding to practical industrial operating conditions. Phonon dispersion analysis confirms dynamical stability and reveals distinct vibrational features governing lattice heat transport. The inverse configuration exhibits reduced lattice thermal conductivity due to modified phonon dispersion and enhanced phonon scattering pathways induced by cation redistribution. Thermoelectric analysis indicates that cation inversion enhances electrical conductivity at elevated temperatures while maintaining moderate Seebeck coefficients, resulting in improved figure of merit (ZT) above 600 K. The combined reduction in lattice thermal conductivity and enhancement in carrier transport suggests that controlled cation engineering can be an effective strategy for optimizing ZnGa₂O₄-based materials for high-temperature waste heat recovery and thermal energy conversion systems.

Finding meaning amid the rubble: a moderated mediation model of religious coping, meaning in life, and life satisfaction after the earthquakes in Türkiye

This study aims to examine the effects of positive religious coping (PRC) on meaning in life (ML) and life satisfaction (LS) in the aftermath of the February 6 earthquakes in Türkiye, widely regarded as the disaster of the century. Furthermore, the study, conducted with 307 individuals affected by the earthquakes, explores the indirect effects of prior trauma and self-reported religiosity (SR) on these relationships; the sample size was determined through G*Power analyses to ensure adequate statistical power. Findings from this cross-sectional study indicate that prior trauma, such as an accident, natural disaster, or loss of a loved one, weakens the direct relationship between PRC and LS, suggesting that individuals with significant trauma histories may experience diminished psychological benefits from religious coping strategies. Using a moderated mediation model, findings revealed that ML serves as a crucial mediator, reinforcing the link between PRC and LS. This finding indicates that individuals who utilize PRC strategies tend to find greater meaning in life, which in turn enhances their overall life satisfaction. However, the strength of this mediation relationship is moderated by SR. The indirect effect of PRC on LS through ML is significantly stronger, with individuals reporting higher levels of religiosity. As levels of perceived religiosity increase, individuals appear more capable of deriving meaning from adversity through religious coping mechanisms, leading to improved psychological outcomes. These findings highlight the complex interplay between trauma, religious coping, and quality of life, providing implications for mental health interventions aimed at enhancing well-being in post-disaster contexts.

Development of digital transformation management scale: validity and reliability study

This study develops and validates the Digital Transformation Management Scale to assess teachers’ perceptions of digital transformation in education. Findings reveal a three-factor structure with high reliability. The scale provides a valid tool for evaluating digital transformation management and supporting evidence-based practices.
