Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic musculoskeletal disease with a higher prevalence among women. To date, there has been no definitive laboratory or imaging assessment for FM, and hence, the diagnosis criteria for FM remained based on subjective assessment of symptoms with high overlap with other rheumatological disorders. Many patients with FM suffer from metabolic disorders leading to insulin resistance (IR). There have been several methods to assess IR, among which the Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) and the triglyceride–glucose (TyG) index have been used more frequently, with the latter being more available and cost-effective. As higher IR has been reported for patients with FM with various mechanisms, in this review, we sought to investigate the association between IR and FM using the current evidence. One of the possible underlying mechanisms of this association might be mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress observed in IR conditions and its role in FM. Studies have also shown that IR indices are higher in patients with FM, compared to healthy controls, while higher HOMA-IR levels were also reported for higher severities of FM based on Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire—Revised (FIQR) scores. While these findings suggest the possible involvement of IR in FM pathophysiology and add to the value of IR measurement in FM clinical assessment, further large-scale studies are needed to establish a definitive causal association between them.

Background and aim: A healthy diet has been recommended for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We aim to investigate the associations of diet quality indices with the risk of developingmetabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). Methods: We conducted this nested case-control study by recruiting 968 cases with MAFLD and 964 controls from the participants of the baseline phase of the Sabzevar Persian Cohort Study (SPCS). MAFLD was defined as having a fatty liver index ≥ 60 plus at least one of the following: overweight or obese, Type II diabetes mellitus, or evidence of metabolic dysregulation. Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015) and Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010 (AHEI-2010) were calculated from a validated food frequency questionnaire. We estimated the associations of HEI-2015 and AHEI-2010 with MAFLD risk using multivariable logistic regression. Results: Among those in the highest relative to the lowest quintile of HEI-2015 and AHEI-2010, the multivariable-adjusted odds ratios (OR) were 0.45 (95% CI [confidence interval] 0.29–0.69; Ptrend = 0.002) and 0.55 (95% CI 0.35–0.85; Ptrend = 0.04), respectively. Conclusion: The results of our study suggest that there is a significant associationbetween adherence to a healthy diet, indicated by a higher score of HEI or AHEI, and a reduced likelihood of developingMAFLD.

Ectopic prostate tissue, defined as the aberrant localization of prostate tissue, is often asymptomatic but may occasionally present with various clinical symptoms. A definitive diagnosis is established through surgical excision and subsequent histopathological analysis. This report discussess a case of ectopic prostate tissue identified in the bladder trigone of a 31-year-old patient who presented with lower urinary tract symptoms. Imaging studies revealed a suspicious lesion within the bladder, initially concerning for a potential tumor. Following cystoscopic examination, the lesion was transurethrally completely resected. Pathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of ectopic prostate tissue, and the patient was subsequently monitored. This case highlights ectopic prostate tissue as a rare pathological condition that can present with clinical features resembling bladder tumors.

Background To investigate the preventive efficacy of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) on alveolar bone destruction in rats with periodontitis. Methods Twenty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: control, experimental periodontitis (Ep), and Ep-MSM. Periodontitis was induced by placing 4.0 silk sutures in the subparamarginal position on the necks of the mandibular first molars and applying the suture for 5 weeks. The Ep-MSM group was given 500 mg/body weight/day MSM intraperitoneally for 35 days. At the end of the study, bilateral mandibular samples were taken. Periodontal bone loss was measured through histologic sections. Histomorphometric and immunohistochemical (receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL), osteoprotegerin (OPG)) evaluations were performed on right mandibular tissue samples, and biochemical (interleukin (IL)-1 beta (beta)/IL-10, malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), oxidative stress index (OSI)) evaluations were performed on left mandibular tissue samples. Results No significant difference was found between the groups in IL-1 beta and IL-1 beta/IL-10 values (p &gt; 0.05). A significant decrease in IL-10 levels was observed in the Ep-MSM and Ep groups compared with the control group (p &lt; 0.05). MDA levels significantly increased in the Ep and Ep-MSM groups compared with the control group, and GSH levels significantly decreased in the Ep group compared with the other groups (p &lt; 0.05). OSI values were significantly higher only in the Ep group (p &lt; 0.05). RANKL levels showed a significant increase in the Ep group compared with the other groups. OPG levels were significantly increased only in the Ep-MSM group (p &lt; 0.05). Conclusions The results of this study may suggest that MSM has preventive effects on alveolar bone loss and oxidative stress.
