Cancer is a disease characterized by the uncontrolled growth and proliferation of body cells. Global Cancer Observatory (GLOBACAN) 2022 data show that around 20 million people are diagnosed with cancer annually, with approximately 9.7 million deaths. The fact that the methods used in the treatment of cancer include different side effects has led to the search for alternative methods with a new and safe effect profile. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as a promising alternative treatment modality for various types of cancers. Central to PDT's effectiveness is the use of photosensitizers, with phthalocyanines being among the most studied due to their strong absorption in the therapeutic window and ability to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon light activation. This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent in vitro and in vivo studies on phthalocyanine-based PDT, highlighting the synthesis of novel phthalocyanines and their phototoxic effects on different cancer cell lines. In this study, in vitro and in vivo studies on PDT were compiled for breast, prostate, lung, colon, gynecological, liver, and melanoma cancers using the keywords “PDT” and “phthalocyanine” from 2020 to the present.

<description>Impact of an ultra-thin antimony layer on the performance of CdTe-based photodetectors under varying illumination conditions

In this study, the impact of thin Sb-layer in the device on CdTe photodetector parameters were examined. CdTe films were deposited by the close spaced sublimation (CSS) method, and then Sb-thin films were grown onto CdTe coated substrates by DC sputtering. In the structural analyses, it was observed that both as-dep and annealed CdTe exhibited the formation of double phases (Cd-rich and Cd-poor CdTe). However, Sb coating on CdTe led to the formation of Cd-rich and stoichiometric cubic CdTe phases. Surface images revealed that all samples exhibited a densely-packed grain morphology, with average grain sizes of 7.74 µm, 8.15 µm, and 7.15 µm for as-dep. CdTe, annealed CdTe, and annealed CdTe/Sb, respectively. It was calculated that the preparation steps of the samples had no considerable effect on the bandgap, as all samples exhibited values within the range of 1.45–1.48 eV. Meanwhile, PL features in the range of 817–820 nm were observed for all samples, attributed to acceptor-bound exciton transitions in the as-dep CdTe, and to donor-bound exciton transitions in the annealed CdTe and CdTe/Sb films. All photodetectors exhibited photoconductive behavior; however, the best performance was achieved by annealing CdTe under Cd-overpressure (R=1.7 mA/W, D*=3.4 ×10⁷ Jones for blue light, and R=2.5 mA/W, D*=5 ×10⁷ Jones for red light). Furthermore, the annealed CdTe photodetector maintained a significant level of performance even after six months without encapsulation. In contrast, Sb coating on CdTe led to a slight degradation in device performance, attributed to its adverse effects on defect levels and grain structure.

<title>Comparative analysis of chloride-treated ZnTe films in photodetector devices</title>

<description>Comparative analysis of chloride-treated ZnTe films in photodetector devices
Yılmaz S.; Başol B.M.; Olğar M.A.; Bayazıt, Tuğba
The current work aims to demonstrate the potential effects of different Cl-treatments on ZnTe thin films as candidates for photodetector applications. X-ray diffraction (XRD) data revealed that the degree of preferred orientation along the (111) plane increased with Cl-treatments compared to the as-deposited ZnTe, and Cl-treatment also promoted crystal growth in ZnTe. Surface images showed that the MgCl2-treated ZnTe sample exhibited a transformation of faceted grains into rounded shapes, resulting in a denser and more compact microstructure. Among the samples, the CdCl2-treated ZnTe demonstrated a sharper transition. The optical band gaps were 2.18 eV for the as-deposited ZnTe film, 2.16 eV for the ZnCl2-treated sample, 2.20 eV for the CdCl2-treated sample, and 2.19 eV for the MgCl2-treated sample. This indicates that ZnCl2 treatment slightly lowers the band gap, whereas CdCl2 and MgCl2 treatments lead to small increases. The current-voltage (I-V) curves displayed a steeper slope under both dark and illuminated conditions after ZnCl2, MgCl2, and CdCl2 treatments compared to the as-deposited ZnTe, likely due to enhanced conductivity. The CdCl2-treated ZnTe photodetectors (PDs) exhibited the fastest photoresponse, with rise and fall times of 13 m s each. Furthermore, CdCl2-treated ZnTe-based PDs achieved the highest sensitivity (S = 417 %), responsivity (R = 0.0024 A/W), and detectivity (D∗ = 1.4 × 107 Jones) among the tested devices, suggesting that these PDs are suitable candidates for high-performance photodetector applications.

This research was carried out to determine the Sorbus L. species distributed within the borders of Rize province between 2011-2013 and to reveal the differences (morphological, anatomical, and ecological) between them. It was determined that four taxa belong to the genus Sorbus L. in the research area, which is located in the A8 square according to the grid system. Identified taxa, Sorbus aucuparia L., Sorbus subfusca (Ledeb) Boiss, Sorbus caucasica (Zinserl) var. Yaltırikii, Gökşin and Sorbus umbellata. var. cretica (Lindl) Schneidear. The morphological, anatomical, and ecological characteristics of these taxa, which are naturally distributed in the flora of the research area, were comparatively examined. Localities of Sorbus L. taxa distributed in the region, habitat characteristics, and species identification keys were identified. The localities of the taxa that naturally spread in the region were determined, and their maps were processed according to the GPS coordinate data.
