Abstract

Bisphenol A (BPA), a plastic additive widely used in many polymeric products, disrupts the endocrine system by interfering with hormonal and homeostatic functions. Due to concerns about the health effects of BPA, it is crucial to detect BPA in order to control this potential risk in a timely manner. To this end, we have developed a laboratory-made, disposable sensing platform to detect BPA rapidly and easily using a ternary nanocomposite comprising tungsten disulfide (WS2), magnetite (Fe3O4), and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to enhance the electroactive properties of the sensor. Comprehensive structural and electrochemical characterizations were conducted to evaluate the performance of each nanomaterial constituting the ternary composite. The sensor demonstrated a good linear response ranging from 0.05μM to 50μM, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.03μM. Additionally, the sensor exhibited acceptable stability, strong anti-interference ability, good reproducibility, and repeatability. The proposed sensor was also utilized to detect BPA in tap and spring water samples with a satisfactory recovery rates from 103.50% to 105.25%. These findings suggest the sensor's potential as a reliable platform for monitoring BPA. From all these results, it can be concluded that the ternary composite of WS2, Fe3O4, and rGO offers significant insights for the electrochemical monitoring of BPA.
