Modernitenin eleştirisi ve ‘Milliyetçi söylem' bağlamında milliyetçiliğe yeniden bakmak

Abstract

Öz: Bu makale, milliyetçilik literatüründe merkezi konumda bulunan ve millet ve milli- yetçiliği modernite merkezli açıklama girişimlerinin, ilgili literatürde görülen yakın dö- nem çalışmalar paralelinde, ek okumalar ile geliştirilmesini amaçlamaktadır. Bu doğ- rultuda makale, modernist kuramların millet ve milliyetçiliği modernitenin temel top- lumsal dinamikleri olan sanayileşme, kentleşme ve toplumsal seferberlik gibi olgular çerçevesinde ele almalarından farklı olarak, millet ve milliyetçiliğe, modernitenin eleş- tirisi ve ‘söylem’ kavramı dâhilinde yaklaşmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, öncelikle moderni- tenin eleştirilerine; ardından da Michel Foucault’nun ‘söylem’ tanımlamasından hare- ketle milliyetçiliğe yeniden bakmak için, genelde milliyetçiliği ve milli kimliği ifade eden ‘‘milliyetçi söylem’’in doğasına, özelde ise milliyetçi söylemin iki yeni yaklaşımına, gündelik hayat ve toplumsal cinsiyet boyutuna yönelik çözümlemelere yer verilmiştir.

Abstract: This article, in line with recent studies in the literature on nationalism, aims to contribute to the modernity-centered attempts to explain nation and nationalism that take center stage in the relevant literature. Accordingly, the article, unlike modernist theories’ approach to nation and nationalism based on the phenomena such as indus- trialization, urbanization, and social mobilization, which are the basic social dynamics of modernity, approaches to nation and nationalism within the context of the criticism of modernity and the concept of ‘discourse’. In this context, with an aim to revisit first the criticisms of modernity and then nationalism taking the Michel Foucault’s definition of “discourse” as starting point, the article contains analyses on the nature of ‘nation- alist discourse’ that refers to nationalism and national identity in general, as well as analyses on ‘daily life’ and ‘gender’–two new approaches of nationalist discourse–in particular.
