dc.description.abstractIn this study, a controller design has been carried out for the automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system in power systems. In order to improve the performance of the AVR system, a proportional - integral - derivative (PID) plus double derivative controller is proposed. The four parameters of the proposed controller have been determined optimally by using an algorithm named RIME, which has been developed in recent years and has not been used in the AVR system before. In addition, the performance of the RIME tuned controller is compared with that of fractional order PID (FOPID) and conventional PID controllers. From the obtained results, it is seen that the proposed controller performs better than the other controllers in terms of settling time and overshoot of the AVR system.en_US
