Rize has a lot of plateaus which due to traditional life have partly been extinguished. the spectacular Anzer plateau with its rich flora and fauna is located 35 km south-west of the Ikizdere district and 54 km from the Rize centre. It divides into lower (Ciceklikoy) and upper Anzer (Ballikiiy) region. Many species from the rich flora of Anzer province can be used as ornamental plants. Geophytes which include some of these plant types have usage potential for rural and urban landscapes with their original structure and growing environment ecology. Geophytes can be used in rock gardens, water gardens, collection gardens, roof and terrace gardens, and for functional purposes surrounding roads, motorways and sloping surfaces due to their beautiful flowers, easy growth and early blooming. in this study we searched the phenology and natural distribution of some geophytes (Crocus vallicola, Colchicum speciosum, Fritillaria latifolia, Muscari armeniacum) in the Anzer plateau of Rize in order to determine their potential usage for landscape architecture. By attracting attention to these plants we aim to introduce them to urban landscape use.
