Sosyal bilgiler öğretiminde kavram öğretim uygulamaları: Bir meta-analiz çalışması

Abstract

Günümüzde kavram öğretimi eğitimin her alanında olduğu gibi Sosyal Bilgiler öğretiminde de önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Bu derste kavram öğretiminde çeşitli uygulamalar kullanılmaktadır. Ancak Sosyal Bilgiler dersi kapsamında tüm kavram öğretim uygulamalarını ele alan bir çalışma bulunmamaktadır. Bu durum ilgili derste kavram öğretimi uygulamaları ile ilgili bilgileri bir bütün olarak görebilmeyi zorlaştırmaktadır. Meta-analiz bir konuda yapılmış bireysel çalışma verilerinin bir araya getirilip tekrar analiz edilmesini sağlayan bir yöntemdir. Bu çalışmada, Sosyal Bilgiler dersi kapsamında kavram öğretim uygulamaları ile ilgili yapılmış deneysel çalışmaların meta-analiz yöntemi ile incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Konu ile ilgili detaylı literatür taraması yapılmış ve ulaşılan çalışmalardan bu yönteme uygun olanlar çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Bu kapsamda 31 çalışma meta-analiz yöntemi ile incelenmiş ve bu derste yapılan kavram öğretim uygulamalarının etkililik derecesi belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırmaya dahil edilen çalışmaların bireysel ve genel etki büyüklükleri hesaplanmıştır. Meta-analiz sonuçlarına göre genel etki büyüklüğü 2.05 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Genel etki büyüklüğü incelendiğinde, Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde yapılan kavram öğretim uygulamalarının kavram öğretimi üzerinde büyük etki düzeyinde bir etkiye sahip olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında ulaşılan sonuçlardan hareketle Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenlerinin kavram öğretim uygulamalarının etkililik düzeylerini dikkate alarak kullanmaları önerilmiştir.

Today, concept teaching has an important place in Social Studies teaching as it is in every field of education. In this course, various applications are used in concept teaching. However, there is no study that deals with all concept teaching practices within the scope of Social Studies course. This situation makes it difficult to see the information about concept teaching practices in the related course as a whole. Meta analysis is a method that brings together and reanalyzes the data of individual studies on a subject. In this study, it is aimed to examine the experimental studies on concept teaching practices within the scope of Social Studies course by meta-analysis method. A detailed literature review on the subject was made and the studies that were suitable for this method were included in the study. In this context, 31 studies were examined with the meta-analysis method and the effectiveness of the concept teaching practices in this course was tried to be determined. The individual and general effect sizes of the studies included in the study were calculated. According to the results of the meta analysis, the overall effect size was calculated as 2.05. When the overall effect size was examined, it was concluded that the concept teaching practices made in the Social Studies course had a great effect on the concept teaching. Based on the results reached within the scope of the study, it was suggested that Social Studies teachers should use concept teaching practices by considering their effectiveness levels.
